Lebo Diverse Mashifane is a multidisciplinary artist, performer and filmmaker. As the director of LM Diverse – a production company for creative entrepreneurs, they create a platform that bridges the gap between creative/cultural and corporate/commercial industries. They recently published ‘Pieces of Expressions’, an anthology which is a conversation with the universe and a journey for seven years. Lebo is the founder of SE7EN27, an international collaboration art brand. Lebo has served as a youth developer and facilitator of creative writing and photography. Lebo is a school of thought – a teacher of a black queer institute. In 2021, Lebo exhibited with Manchester International Festival (MIF21) ‘Poet Slash Artist’. The exhibition went on tour to Denmark, with SE7EN27 being currently exhibited around Europe in public spaces around Manchester and Denmark. In 2020 when the world was in lockdown, ‘Pieces of Expressions’ was acquired by Buchhandlung Walther König GmbH & Co.KG and effectively traveled through space and time. In this contribution, Lebo fuses prose and poetry to explore what dynamics of the world we live in normalize extreme circumstances for the human soul to live under - and what it would look like to move beyond them. Lebo argues that the same black queer passion that has been demonised and labeled as, inhuman, unfitting, unrighteous and immoral, has been effectively instituted by the likes of Dr. Bev Ditsie and Professor Sir Muholi by expressing their black queer passions openly and by challenging the idea that black queer being is finite.
